Why help remove plastic from oceans ?

More than 8 million tons of plastic waste are dumped into the oceans each year.

To better represent this volume, it is the equivalent of a garbage truck full of plastic that is dumped every minute into the oceans. At this rate, by 2050, as the world population approaches 10 billion people, there will more plastic in our oceans than fish.
The plastic pollution of the oceans has a catastrophic impact on marine biodiversity. Animals mistake plastics for food or accidentally swallow them. In addition to choking them or piercing their intestines, each year, according to UNESCO figures, more than one million seabirds and more than 100,000 marine mammals die from plastic waste.
It is also important to know that marine plastics break up with ocean forces and transform into microplastics (> 5 mm) and then nanoplastics. Microplastics contaminate the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink.

According to a Newcastle University study published in June 2019, a human being could ingest about 5 grams of plastic each week, the equivalent of the weight of a credit card. Action must be taken now to :

– Minimize our consumption of plastic packaging ;

– Help the most polluting countries to collect their waste before it ends up at sea ;

– Remove plastic already in the oceans.

Studies show that if today, no plastic waste ends up in the oceans, then it would take 15 years of clean-up to rid the oceans of all our plastic waste, at the rate of current efforts.

By making a donation to support associations that work in the field, you are enabling them to organize more and more plastic waste collections and help this urgent mission to clean up the seas and oceans along.

 

Who are YouCare’s partner associations ?

YouCare provides financial support to Project Rescue Ocean, Wings of the Ocean et Clean My Calanques, which organise local and international waste collection actions.

How is my donation used ?

It is our duty to offer you maximum visibility on the use of your donation.

When you make a donation via our donation page, it is entirely collected by the YouCare Association, which then donates 70 % of your donation to its partner associations.

For example, if you make a donation of 10 euros, 7 euros will be donated to YouCare’s partner associations, which will allow them to remove 15.75 kilos of plastic from the oceans. (Access the detailed calculation here.)

The remaining 30 % is used to cover the operating costs of our solidarity search engine YouCare, which, unlike its competitors, uses half of its advertising revenues to help its partner associations financially. Click here to try YouCare.

In addition to our donation certificates, we ask our partner associations to regularly send us, as soon as they have the time and opportunity, photos of waste collections removed from the oceans in order to share with you the progress of the projects.

Is my donation subject to a tax reduction ?

If you are a french individual, you can deduct 66 % of your donations from your income tax. The reduction applies up to 20 % of your taxable income. For example, if you give 50 euros, your donation will actually cost you only 17 euros. To learn more about the deductibility of your donations, click here.
If you are a company domiciled in France, you can deduct 60 % of the amount of your donations from your income tax or corporate tax, up to a maximum of 5 per thousand of annual turnover excluding tax (ceiling applied to all payments made) of your company.
The reduction is subtracted from the amount of tax payable by the donating company in the year of the payments. To learn more about the deductibility of your donations, click here.

How do I get my tax receipt ?

When you make a donation via our donation page, it is collected by the YouCare Association, which transfers it to its partner associations.

Once you have made your donation, you will receive a summary email from the YouCare Association. In this email, you will find a link to get your tax receipt.
