Why help fund cancer research?

As highlighted by the report of the World Congress Against Cancer held in Paris in 2016, the number of women affected by cancer by 2030 is expected to increase steadily, especially for breast cancer.

A number that could reach 5.5 million in 2030, an increase of 60 %. Today, it represents the most common cancer among women worldwide.

It should be noted that breast cancer also affects women in countries with low access to care. However, many of these countries have little or no access to cancer screening technologies.

If detected early, breast cancer can be cured in nine out of ten cases.

For several years, the Curie Institute, a specialist in cancer research, has been developing an innovative medical program called KDOG. This project aims to detect breast cancer at an early stage thanks to the exceptional smell of the dog.

Dogs have a sense of smell 100,000 to 1 million times more sensitive than human sense of smell, allowing them to distinguish and memorize specific smells in minute concentrations of matter.

Trained in detection, dogs are able to detect the characteristic odour of a tumour in bodily fluids such as sweat, as they are already able to do for searching for missing persons, detecting illicit substances or explosives.

KDOG trains these dogs to spot the presence of breast cancer by sniffing a wipe that has been in contact with the skin alone. The success rates of KDOG dogs reach nearly 100 %.

This new breast cancer screening technique is simple, inexpensive and non-invasive because it relies primarily on the smell of dogs. Thanks to the development of the KDOG program, many lives could be saved with cheaper access to breast cancer screening.

By making a donation to ensure that this programme develops and that research continues to progress, you are providing valuable financial assistance to the Curie Institute in carrying out its mission.

What are YouCare’s partner associations?

As explained above, YouCare provides financial support to the Curie Institute’s KDOG medical programme to fight cancer.

YouCare will never fund a medical animal testing program. On the contrary, the KDOG program uses the exceptional abilities of dogs by working with them in a positive way to provide a reliable and inexpensive solution to detect the disease.

You can discover on our map all the associations we support. For each of them, you will find their contact information in their description.

How is my donation used ?

It is our duty to offer you the maximum visibility on the use of your donation.

When you make a donation via our donation page, it is entirely collected by the YouCare Association, which then donates 70 % of your donation to its partner association.

For instance, if you donate 10 euros, 7 euros will be donated to YouCare partner associations, which will fund 10 minutes of cancer research. (Access the calculation details here.)

The remaining 30 % is used to cover the operating costs of our solidarity search engine YouCare, which, unlike its competitors, uses half of its advertising revenues to help its partner associations financially. Click here to try YouCare.
